Spider Solitaire: Rules and Basics
- The Objective: Remove all cards from the table using the fewest possible moves.
- The Table: Spider Solitaire is played with two decks of cards. The number of decks used depends on the chosen difficulty level—either one, two, or four suits are used.
- The cards are arranged in ten columns with one card face up at the top of each column and the remaining cards face down. The unused cards are stacked in the lower-right corner.
How to Play: To emerge victorious, you must build columns in descending order, from king to ace, removing all the cards from the table. In intermediate and advanced levels, the cards in the columns must also match suit. Successfully assembling a sequentially-ordered column results in its removal from the table. If you run out of viable moves, simply click on the pile at the bottom of the table and Windows will deal a new row of cards. You are not limited to moving only one card at a time—when a run of cards shares the same suit and is arranged in numeric order, you can drag them around as if they were a single card.
Scoring: Each game begins with a starting score of 500 points, which Windows deducts based on the number of moves it takes to complete the game. Additionally, Windows increases this subtotal by 100 times the number of runs removed from the table.
